Built between 1815 and 1816, Farmington Historic Plantation was owned by the wealthy couple John and Lucy Fry Speed; before slavery was abolished it was primarily a hemp plantation of over 550 acres. Constructed in the Federal style of architecture, visitors can tour the historic home, furnished to mimic its mid-19th century appearance, and its grounds, including outbuildings and garden areas. Located on the southeastern side of the city, the home is just half a mile south of the Bowman Field airstrip.
